Class Description: Mural Painting Class: An initial discussion of creating a scaled rendering, and the methods for enlarging a design and the painting and drafting techniques for large scale mural works. Students will be given many resources from which to create a mural design of their own, combining elements one encounters when painting a mural: architecture, landscape, faux techniques for marble and graining, still-life elements, and perspective.
Bio: Bryan King graduated with a B.F.A. from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1979, and an M.F.A. from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1981. He has been working as a decorative artisan and muralist since 1986 in the metropolitan Washington area.
His business, Artifice, Inc. is a full service decorative painting company, with a strong emphasis on tromp-l’oeil and mural work which has allowed him to further a lifelong interest in a representational style of painting and architectural perspective.
He has been a past instructor of mural painting for the Smithsonian Institution’s Resident Associate Program and has completed many murals for restaurants, corporate offices, and private residences in the Washington, D.C. metro area, including nine large building murals in the DC region.
