Class Description: Discover the ancient art of glass gilding and reverse painting. Learn the basics of verre églomisé - how to prepare the glass, gilder’s tools, making gelatin size, how to apply genuine gold leaf, how to use pre-cut stencils, how to engrave designs on the gilded glass panel, hand painting and how to protect your work. Two finished glass projects will be produced through this class. 

This workshop includes glass, materials, genuine gold leaf and other metal leaf, handouts and use of all tools. Finished project will be wrapped and packed for travel. All skill levels are welcome.

Tools students are expected to bring:
Please bring a gilder's knife, gilder's pad, and gilder's tip and any brushes you own.

Bio: Marybeth Ting is a Toronto-based designer and gilder specializing in Verre Eglomise. Marybeth is passionate about the authenticity of handcrafted work and how each object showcases the artisanal techniques handed down through generations. She has always been fascinated with gilded interiors and objects and came across an article about the ancient art Verre Eglomise that peaked her interest. 

Since 2010, she has fervidly pursued her interest in Verre Eglomise full time. She has attended workshops with master gilders Miriam Ellner, Jill London, Charles Douglas, Sandra Spannan and Lori Lemare to name a few. She has done private commission and her work has been exhibited by ARIDO in the art show Art by Designers Toronto in 2015 and 2016. She is a member of the Society of Gilders. Her work combines the traditional process of gilding on glass with contemporary designs resulting in a modern expression of this ancient art.
